Try this:
Open start menu, type command prompt and rt-click the link and select Run-As Administrator.
Once it opens, run the following commands.
net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2\edb.log *.tst
net start cryptsvc
exit
Try installing the updates again.

After 2 weeks surfing the net searching for a solution to the error code 8e5e03fe problem, your solution finally resolved the problem and I was able to update KB2931356 and KB2871997. I noticed that it was posted back in 2011 and although I didn’t think if was going to work on Windows 7, I am glad it did. Thanks again.
