Here’s a FREE app that takes pictures silently.
Blackberrys, like most phones these days, have an audible shutter “click” sound when you use the camera to take a picture. Normally this isn’t a big deal because the parties being photographed have reason to expect that their picture is being taken. But what if you wish to be covert?
I’m talking about pictures taken during a speech or pictures taken of an object in a quiet room (library? museum?), you know, places where you’d look like a total dork if you get caught snapping away. Those are the times when you may wish your camera function was silent.Â
So how do you do it?
Well, turns out there’s an app for that 🙂
You can try this out on your own phone, at your own risk. It worked on a client’s Blackberry Tour 9630 (3G CDMA) v5.0.0.732 (Bundle 1242, Platform 4.2.0.334)
Application:Â Peekaboo(free)Â Instructions HERE
Make sure you take note of the instructions BEFORE you download. If you don’t like the whole 4-picture series thing, you can exit the app after the first picture has taken. Assigning it to a button is a must.
Untested Applications:Â BerryAnnoying(trial and paid versions) and CameraMute(free)
Disclaimer: There is no law against taking a silent picture, but please be an ethical person and only use it for legitimate purposes. You don’t want to have to register as a sex offender do you?
Note:Â You can also use this workaround if you don’t wish to install any apps…call your voicemail (turn down the volume), switch to the camera, take your picture, then exit and end the VM call.
