A very extreme fix:

Edit the Registry (take a backup before you start) to set the monitor to default to the resolution you want.

Start–>Run

Type “regedit” and Enter

Hit CTRL+F on your keyboard and type in “DefaultSettings.XResolution” and hit Find

Change that value to the desired X. In my case it was 780 (1920 resolution)

Then change the “DefaultSettings.YResolution” to your desired Y. In my case it was 438 (1080 resolution)

Hint: You can change the key to decimal, type in the value you want, then change to Hex and then save.

Restart

Is this text genuine or is it a scam or spam?

It’s legit.

What is getmymr.com?

It is the mobile install website for the Mobile Recovery feature run by Verizon Wireless’ partner Asurion. They are the company who provide your Total Equipment Coverage(TEC) cell phone insurance plan.
Usually you will see this message if you add insurance coverage to a line on your account. As far as I know there is no charge for using Mobile Recovery as long as you have TEC on your account/line.

Okay, so what is Mobile Recovery?

Mobile Recovery is a feature of Total Equipment Coverage. After you setup an account, you access it on their website with your phone number and a PIN. Here are the things that Mobile Recovery can help with:

Your phone found
Misplaced your phone? No problem. Use Mobile Recovery’s Phone Alarm feature to sound a loud tone from your phone until you are able to locate it. If your phone is outside the audible range, Mobile Recovery can locate your phone on a map and give you turn-by-turn directions to its location

Your privacy secure
If your phone is ever lost, use Mobile Recovery to remotely erase the contacts from your device and lock your phone (must have a password setup on the phone) from use to keep your private information from falling into the wrong hands.

I want the messages to STOP!

Easy enough. Text “STOP” to 6967 from the phone that received the message.

To read the user manual, use this link or just goto the Mobile Recovery Website to read more about Total Equipment Coverage and see a list of the devices supported.

Concern:
You find a suspicious folder on your computer or removable hard drive which is a long string of numbers/letters and the folder contains the files mrtstub.exe and / or mrt.exe._p and some hidden files such as $shtdwn$.req

These files are the leftovers from when the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool was run. Normally the folder is deleted automatically, but if the program was stopped in the middle of running or due to some other unexpected system behavior the files may remain behind. You can delete this folder / files.

For more information, see Microsoft’s article on the subject. In particular the section which states:

How to remove the Malicious Software Removal Tool

The Malicious Software Removal Tool does not use an installer. Typically, when you run the Malicious Software Removal Tool, it creates a randomly named temporary directory on the root drive of the computer. This directory contains several files, and it includes the Mrtstub.exe file. Most of the time, this folder is automatically deleted after the tool finishes running or after the next time that you start the computer. However, this folder may not always be automatically deleted. In these cases, you can manually delete this folder, and this has no adverse effect on the computer.

When you try to goto the Shop screen on your Nook First edition, black and white reader, it flickers and then goes back to the main screen. The Nook is stuck in a loop where the Shop never displays.

This may be linked to the auto software update version 1.7.0

Regardless of the issue you have with your Nook, here are some Resets you can try. Bear in mind these actions will change data on your device, so if you can, backup your device before messing with it.

Reset #1

Goto Settings–>Device–>Unregister Your Nook. Confirm.

Then Goto Settings–>Device–>Reset To Factory Settings. Confirm.

Your Nook will reboot and ask you to re-register and re-connect to WiFi

Reset #2

With your Nook powered on, hold the back-page button on the right side of the Nook, the one that looks like this: <, while also pressing and holding the Power button at the same time.

Holding both these buttons at the same time should reset the device. Don’t give up if it doesn’t work the first time…if you can’t get it then you may have to go back to Reset #1 or do a Full Manual Restore

Full Manual System Restore (Hard Reset)

If you elect this option, your device will be wiped completely, including software updates which were applied after you setup the device. Sometimes this is the only way to get the reader working again. Just note, this will result in you losing all your sideloaded content and you will have to re-download your library, which could take a while if it’s suubstantial in size.

Make sure your Nook is fully charged or plugged into the wall. Very Important!

Turn off the Nook by holding down the Power button on the top.

When you see the screen go blank white, press and hold the Power button until the screen flickers black for a moment. Continue to hold the button for a slow count of 12-15 seconds. You won’t see anything on-screen, but the animated arrows may stop.

Repeat Step #2 a total of 6 more times.

Once you’ve done that, you can turn your Nook back on.

You will see the touch screen go black and it will display a blue progress bar as it restores everything. This will take a few minutes. (If you don’t see this, then start over at Step 1)

Once it boots into your main screen you’re ready to re-register it and re-connect it to the WiFi.

Once you have a WiFi connection, goto My Library, in the My B&N Library section you will select the “Check for new B&N content” button. The Nook will check for the latest software update and automatically install it for you. The 1.7.0 update (latest update as of this blog posting) is 62MB in size so it will take some time to download and even more time to install, so be patient.

This displays, but there is also an orange alert triangle still on the top status bar of the phone’s screen. It won’t go away and even though you’re connected to a Wi-Fi connection, it still says: “Download will resume in Wi-Fi coverage.” 0% shows as having been downloaded…

System Version: 4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US
Android Version: 2.3.4

Things to try:

Save yourself some time and skip right to updating the firmware on the phone via USB cable connection.
The latest software version as of 3/8/2012 is Blur_Version.4.5.141.MB860.ATT.en.US
Goto: http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Android_Products/ATRIX-4G_Software_Update_Page
Either try the manual update or the automatic Motorola Software Update application. Manual update failed for me but MSU worked.
Get the MSU HERE: http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSummary.asp?country=USA&language=ENS&web_page_name=SUPPORT&strCarrierId=ATT&strPhone=Motorola%20ATRIX%28TM%29%204G&strCable=Micro%20USB%20Data%20Cable

If that doesn’t work then your next step is a HARD RESET. Good luck!
