To solve this annoying little error, you won’t need any fancy tools.

Simply open up Add or Remove Programs and Uninstall “Software Version Updater“.

After you complete the uninstall, open up C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp and delete the files Updater.exe and UpdUninstall.exe

Background:
The reason why the error occurs is because of bad code in the Updater.exe file which is set to run every time you Logon the computer and also at 5 hour intervals through the use of an entry in the “Scheduled Tasks” program (Start–>Accessories–>System Tools–>Scheduled Tasks)
The offending task is called: AmiUpdXp.
The program’s owner is Amonitize, a company that deals in special software Installers that pay developers when they use them in their projects.

Here’s how it works:
Let’s say you install SUPER© video conversion software, and they use an Amonitize Installer to setup SUPER© on your system.  The Amonitize Installer will snoop on your computer and figure out what you’re into, then offer you other software packages to install based on your interests.  If you install one of those software packages, Amonitize will pay SUPER©.

Regardless of how legit it is..the program looks and feels like Malware, and Trend Micro doesn’t like it either, which is usually a good sign that you don’t want that program on your PC.  Here is the block notice I got when the program tried downloading an updated version of itself from this web address:
